Strengthening the Payments System as it Faces the Challenge of SEPA

Luis Furnells appointed ServiRed CEO

The board of directors of ServiRed has named Luís Furnells Abaunz to be Managing Director of the company. At the upcoming general shareholders meeting he is to be made a board member and CEO. With extensive experience in a number of financial institutions, Furnells will strengthen the executive structure of the payments systems company as it faces the challenges arising from the advent of SEPA -the Single Euro Payment, Area- ServiRed’s incorporation as a limited liability company, and new technological developments.

Luís Furnells Abaunz has held executive positions in several financial companies and is a former CIO of Telefónica's Group. As a consultant he has served clients in the financial, communications, and services industries. Furnells is well acquainted with ServiRed, having served on the Board in the 1990s. He regards his new appointment as "a very important professional challenge".

The current Managing Director, Enrique Rodríguez Bonachera, is resigning from the executive duties which he has performed in the company for the past 27 years, and will now directly advise Chairman José Manuel Gabeiras on strategic issues in the organisation.
